> Bordeaux's strong points

The International Society for Fat Research, ISF, have chosen Bordeaux for their 25th Congress, to be held at the new Conference Center from October 12th to 15th 2003. Bordeaux offered a venue that met all of ISF's demanding specifications. ISF President, Sylvain Claude, gives details.
Several hundred researchers and academics from all over the world involved in fat research belong to ISF. They meet for an international conference every two years.

"It may seem trivial, but when we decided to come to France for the 2003 conference" says ISF President, Sylvain Claude, "the first requests for Bordeaux came from participants' spouses. Americans, Asians, and even Europeans dream of visiting the vineyards, chateaux, and the historic city of Bordeaux".

Bordeaux's response to the ISF's call for tender made the city even more attractive. "We were impressed by the quality of the facilities and accommodation. We also appreciated the highly professional approach of Congrès et Expositions de Bordeaux, who convinced us to take the risk of booking our event in a Conference Center that was not even built! The versatile facilities - conference and commission rooms plus an exhibition area - meet our needs exactly. Our conference consists of scientific exchanges and the industry is well-represented, with about forty stands. Last, but not least, we felt we were obtaining excellent value for our dollar."

Worth noting: there are significant business interests and scientific activities involving fats in the Gironde area. The port of Bordeaux is specialized in oil-bearing seed cargo traffic and the Bordeaux Based Institut des Corps Gras (the Fats Institute) has worldwide recognition.

> The opinion of Jeffry Newman, the ISF conference organizer

Jeff Newman, congress organizer, tell us what are some of the reasons that Bordeaux was selected for the ISF

Hotel Package. Bordeaux put together a wonderful hotel package that had wide ranging level of accommodations within walking distance of the conference facility. No transfers were required for delegates which made it easy for participants and easy on the overall budget. For those people who wished to stay downtown, they also had the option to do so.

Team Bordeaux was very professional and were quick to respond to all of our needs. The conference center was spectacular - perfect for our meeting needs.

Access. With more than 60 countries represented at the conference, we needed a location that offered good air service and was easily accessible by road and train as well. In that regard, Bordeaux could not have been more convenient.

Affordable. Bordeaux was very reasonable - the accommodation, cost of the facilities, and food were very reasonable in comparison to some of the other cities within Europe, and considerably less expensive than Paris or London.

I would gladly bring a meeting or congress to Bordeaux again!
