The Best Of Wine Tourism awards, created in Bordeaux in 2003, now include cities around the world belonging to the Great Wine Capitals Global Network. These "Best Of" awards recognise the most noteworthy sites with regard to welcoming visitors. They are a fine example of the cooperation and exchanges between members of this network, established in 1999 by the Bordeaux Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and the only one to link wine-producing regions in the Old and New Worlds.
The Great Wine Capitals Global Network consists of 9 cities: Bilbao/Rioja, Bordeaux, Cape Town, Christchurch/South Island, Florence, Mainz, Mendoza, Porto, and San Francisco/Napa Valley. Its goal is to develop relations between member cities on an economic, university, and cultural level.
